Using social media to amplify your holiday promotions
Halloween is nearly here, but holiday products are already creeping their way into stores, and Mariah Carey is defrosting as we speak.
This year, many Canadians will be heading in store to find the best gifts and deals, however, for many, social media remains an important part of their buying journey. The Deloitte Holiday Retail Outlook, reported that 42% of Canadians are planning to begin their holiday shopping online this year, so, if you’re a business owner, that means that you may want to consider how you can use social media to amplify your holiday promotions.
Let us help with that!
Be festive
There are so many ways you can get festive on social media, from holiday contests and giveaways, to fun holiday content, and more.
Here are some ideas for a little holiday inspo:
- 12 days of giveaways
- Feature seasonal products or bundles in giveaways and contests
- Use User Generated Content that features holiday twists (i.e. gift guides, tutorials, etc)
- Create holiday content such as how-tos, tutorials, and more (i.e. holiday makeup, holiday outfits, holiday recipes, or hosting tips).
Tap into holidays - even those small ones
There are many holidays that you can tap into, from Black Friday, to Cyber Monday, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and everything in between. You don’t have to just think about these bigger holidays. From Hot Cocoa Day to Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, these smaller holidays may hold an opportunity to share some relevant products or to show off some of the people and personality behind your business.
Up your game when it comes to engagement
We’ve probably said it a thousand times and we’ll probably say it a thousand times more, but engagement is SO important on social media. When you actually interact with your followers, those who you follow, and others in your circle, it makes a difference! Aside from commenting, liking, sharing, and all of that good stuff, here are some simple ways to level up your engagement:
- Add polls to your posts or Stories on Instagram
- Add question boxes, quizzes, and react buttons to your Instagram Stories posts
Put some money behind your posts
Yes, social media is free and you can do a lot with that, but it doesn’t hurt to put even a little bit of money into it. If you have some in your budget, you may want to consider boosting specific posts around the holiday season (maybe a post about a holiday bundle or product). By doing so, you have the opportunity to reach a larger audience and to attract more people to your page or website.
Work with influencers
I feel like we can’t talk about using social media to amplify holiday promotions without mentioning influencers. Working with right influencers can really help your brand, because they often have a group of highly engaged followers who trust them, so if they mention your product or service, it doesn’t just boost your visibility, but it lends you credibility too.
If you’re hoping to work with influencers this holiday season, remember to choose carefully and that bigger does not equal better. Smaller creators who align with your brand and have a close and engaged community is a great place to start.
Don’t stop because the holiday season is over
The holidays have come and gone and now you’re done, right? Nope! The holiday season can get a little crazy and everyone needs a break, but you shouldn’t disappear after the holidays. Stay tuned in and remain consistent. Staying consistent long after the holiday season can help you build on the connections that were made during the holiday season.
