With the popularity of YouTube, Reels, and TikTok, you’re probably using videos in your marketing, or at least thinking about it.
People can watch and it may even pique their interest, but sometimes, nothing happens. They don’t visit your website or online shop and they don’t make a purchase. And that’s ok - sometimes. Not every video is going to drive traffic and sales, some are just for connection and entertainment.
With that said, it’s great to capture their attention and entertain your audience, but how do you do that and turn that into an action and a sale? Let’s talk about how interactive video can help turn passive viewers into active buyers.
What is interactive video?
Interactive videos are videos that allow viewers to engage with the content beyond just watching, this could include clicking certain buttons or asking questions.
Interactive video takes your viewers from someone who is just watching your content, to someone who is participating and engaging with it as well.
Here are some examples of how that might look…
Adding interactive stickers like polls to your Instagram Reels
Adding links or button on your YouTube videos so that viewers can click to learn more, book an appointment, or add to cart in an instant
Utilize going live on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, giving viewers the option to engage with you and your brand in real-time. They can ask questions, comment, and more. This could be a great option for launching new products, tutorials, etc.
According to Mediafly, interactive content also generates 52.6% higher engagement rates than static content. But it’s not just brands who gain something from interactive videos. Interactive videos give viewers the opportunity to be heard, to connect, and to shop in ways that feel easy and natural to them. 43% of consumers actually prefer interactive video over traditional video formats.
How to get started/best practices
If you want to try interactive videos, think about it from your customers’ perspective and their journey. Understanding your customer should be the foundation of all of your efforts, period.
To do this, ask yourself questions like, what platforms do they use? What might they be thinking (i.e. where/how to buy, questions about the features, etc.). Start there. This will help guide you to decide where to post, what to do content wise, and what interactive tools may be helpful.
